This guide walks you through connecting your WHOOP band to FITIV Pulse so you can stream real-time heart rate data during your workouts.
WHOOP connects to FITIV using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Heart Rate Broadcast, a standard protocol that allows WHOOP to act as a wireless heart rate monitor. No cables, no phone proximity required once connected.
What Is WHOOP HR Broadcast?
HR Broadcast is a built-in WHOOP feature that transmits your real-time heart rate to compatible apps and devices over Bluetooth Low Energy. When enabled, WHOOP behaves like a standard BLE heart rate monitor, which means FITIV Pulse can detect and read it directly during a workout session.
ℹ️ Pro Tip: HR Broadcast streams live data only. WHOOP does not make continuous heart rate history available to third-party apps via API. Data appears in FITIV in real time during your workout and is logged as part of your session summary.
Before You Begin
Make sure the following are ready before pairing:
- Your WHOOP band is charged and worn on your wrist
- Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone
- The WHOOP app is installed, and your band is connected to it
- FITIV Pulse is installed and up to date
- WHOOP is not actively paired to another HR device (Peloton, Garmin, Zwift, etc.)
⚠️ Alert Tip: WHOOP can only broadcast to one device at a time. If it is already connected to another app or piece of equipment, disconnect it there first.
How to Connect WHOOP to FITIV Pulse
Step 1: Enable HR Broadcast in the WHOOP App
- Open the WHOOP app on your iPhone
- Tap the device indicator in the top right corner (or go to More > Device Settings)
- Toggle HR Broadcast ON
Step 2: Pair WHOOP Inside FITIV Pulse
- Open FITIV Pulse on your iPhone
- Tap the Workouts tab at the bottom of the app
- Find the Tracking Device / Device Manager section
- Tap Discover Devices (or Discover and Manage Sensors, depending on your app version)
- Your WHOOP will appear in the list by its serial number
- Tap it to select it as your heart rate source
- Set WHOOP as your main tracking device
Step 3: Start a Workout and Confirm
- Begin a workout in FITIV Pulse
- Confirm that live heart rate data is appearing on the active workout screen
How Does WHOOP HR Data Appear in FITIV?
Once connected, FITIV reads your real-time heart rate from WHOOP and uses it to calculate your heart rate zones, Strain score, calorie estimates, and post-workout summary. The data feeds into FITIV's analytics the same way Apple Watch HR data does.
ℹ️ Pro Tip: FITIV writes workout data to Apple Health after each session. The source of the heart rate signal does not affect how FITIV syncs with Apple Health.
Troubleshooting
If WHOOP is not connecting or heart rate is not showing up in FITIV, work through these steps in order:
- Confirm HR Broadcast is ON in the WHOOP app
- Make sure WHOOP is not already connected to another device
- Toggle HR Broadcast OFF, turn Bluetooth OFF on your iPhone, then turn both back ON
- Remove WHOOP from any previously paired Bluetooth devices in iPhone Settings
- Re-pair from the Device Manager in FITIV Pulse
⚠️ Alert Tip: Do not pair WHOOP through your iPhone Bluetooth settings directly. Always pair from inside the FITIV app using Discover Devices.
