Google is retiring the Fitbit® connection that FITIV Run and FITIV Ride use today. Your Fitbit data is not lost. You can keep it flowing into FITIV Run and Ride through Apple Health, or switch to FITIV Pulse, which now connects directly to Google Health™.
Why is the Fitbit connection ending?
The Fitbit app is now called Google Health, and Google is moving third-party apps to a new way of sharing data. The older Fitbit connection is being shut down, so FITIV Run and FITIV Ride will no longer be able to sync with Fitbit directly.
You have two options to keep your data connected. Both are covered below.
Option 1: How do I sync my Fitbit data through Apple Health?
The Google Health app on iPhone can now write your Fitbit data to Apple Health. FITIV Run and Ride reads from Apple Health, so this keeps your data in one place without a direct Fitbit connection.
In the Google Health app:
- Open Google Health on your iPhone.
- At the top left, tap Connections, then Apps and services.
- Under Add connections, tap Apple Health, then Get started.
- Tap Agree and allow the data types you want to share.
- Tap Done.
In the Apple Health app:
- Open the Health app.
- Tap the Sharing tab, then Apps.
- Tap FITIV Run or FITIV Ride and turn on the data you want the app to read.
| ✅ Success Tip: Once both connections are on, your Fitbit data appears in Apple Health and becomes available to FITIV Run and Ride. |
What Fitbit data does Google Health share with Apple Health?
According to Google, Google Health can write these data types to Apple Health:
| Category | Data shared |
|---|---|
| Fitness | Steps, VO2 max, floors, active calories, distance, exercise, exercise routes |
| Sleep | Sleep sessions, sleep stages |
| Vitals | Heart rate, resting heart rate, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, blood glucose |
| Temperature | Body temperature |
| Body | Weight, body fat percentage |
| Nutrition | Energy, macros, water |
| Other | Mindfulness, cycle tracking |
| ⚠️ Alert Tip: Google Health does not currently write heart rate variability (HRV) or skin temperature to Apple Health. Any FITIV metric that depends on HRV from your Fitbit will not have that data through this option. |
Option 2: Why switch to FITIV Pulse for a better integration?
FITIV Pulse connects directly to Google Health, with no Apple Health step in between. You sign in with your Google account once, and FITIV Pulse reads your activity, sleep and body data straight from Google Health.
The connection also works both ways. Workouts you record in FITIV Pulse can save back to Google Health automatically. FITIV Pulse turns your Fitbit data into Recovery, Readiness and training guidance.
To set it up, follow Guide: How to Connect Google Health to FITIV Pulse.
What if my Fitbit data is not showing up?
Most issues come from permissions or source settings. Check these first:
- Make sure Google Health is updated to the latest version.
- In the Health app, confirm that Google Health can write and FITIV Run or FITIV Ride can read the same data types.
- Open Google Health with your Fitbit nearby so it syncs recent data.
- If Google Health shows New data types available, open the Apple Health connection and approve them.
Info Tip: If you wear both a Fitbit and an Apple Watch®, Apple Health may receive steps from both. Set your preferred source in the Health app under the data type, then Data Sources & Access > Edit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to do anything right now?
A: Yes, if you want your Fitbit data to keep reaching FITIV Run or Ride. Set up the Apple Health option above, or move to FITIV Pulse for the direct Google Health connection.
Q: Does Apple Health sync bring all my Fitbit data?
A: Not all of it. Most activity, sleep and vitals data is shared, but HRV and skin temperature are not currently written to Apple Health by Google Health.
Q: Can I turn off certain data types later?
A: Yes. Open the Health app, tap Sharing > Apps > Google Health, and adjust what it can write. You can do the same for FITIV Run or Ride.
Q: What is the difference between the two options?
A: The Apple Health option keeps you in FITIV Run or Ride and relies on what Google shares with Apple Health. FITIV Pulse connects to Google Health directly and syncs your workouts back to Google Health.
